What is HBAR?

Hedera Hashgraph stands out in the crypto space because it is not actually a blockchain. Founded by Dr. Leemon Baird and Mance Harmon, the project launched in 2018 with a focus on enterprise needs. Unlike many decentralized networks started by anonymous developers, Hedera was built to solve the trilemma of security, speed, and decentralization through a unique governance model and a patented data structure.

The technical architecture relies on the Hashgraph consensus algorithm. Instead of a linear chain of blocks, it uses a gossip about gossip protocol where nodes exchange information about transactions and their history. This leads to asynchronous Byzantine Fault Tolerance, which is considered the highest level of security for a distributed system. The network is incredibly efficient, handling over 10,000 transactions per second with finality reached in just a few seconds.

HBAR is the native token used to power the ecosystem. It serves two primary functions: it acts as fuel for network services like smart contracts and file storage, and it secures the network through a proof of stake system. The total supply is capped at 50 billion tokens, with a distribution schedule designed to prevent sudden inflation while funding the long-term growth of the ecosystem.

One of Hedera's biggest strengths is its Governing Council. This group consists of up to 39 global organizations, including giants like Google, IBM, Dell, and Ubisoft. This council ensures that no single entity controls the network, while providing a level of institutional stability rarely seen in crypto. The ecosystem has seen massive growth in supply chain tracking, ESG reporting, and decentralized finance applications.

Looking toward 2026, the roadmap focuses on massive scalability and the transition to a more permissionless network. We expect the rollout of community-run nodes to further decentralize the physical infrastructure. The primary growth driver will likely be the tokenization of Real World Assets and the integration of institutional stablecoins, as more enterprises move their backend operations to the Hedera mainnet for increased transparency and low, predictable fees.

What is the XTRM Indicator?

The XTRM (Extreme) Indicator is a proprietary momentum indicator that measures cumulative time spent in extreme territory. Unlike traditional oscillators like RSI that measure a snapshot in time, XTRM accumulates how long an asset remains in oversold or overbought conditions, providing a deeper understanding of momentum exhaustion.

For HBAR, monitoring the XTRM indicator provides valuable insights into prolonged extreme conditions. When the XTRM drops significantly below zero (especially below -125), HBAR-USD has been in oversold territory for an extended period, suggesting potential for a reversal. Conversely, high positive XTRM values indicate extended overbought conditions.

Understanding HBAR XTRM Signals

  • Deep Oversold (XTRM below -125): When HBAR XTRM falls below -125, it indicates prolonged time in extreme oversold conditions. This cumulative measure often provides stronger reversal signals than single-day oversold readings.
  • Neutral Zone (XTRM near 0): When XTRM hovers around zero, HBAR is in a balanced state without extended extreme conditions. This can indicate consolidation or indecision in the market.
  • Overbought (XTRM above +10): An XTRM above +10 indicates HBAR has been in overbought territory for an extended period, potentially signaling an overextended rally and increased risk of pullback.

Daily vs Weekly XTRM for HBAR

This page displays both daily and weekly XTRM for HBAR. The daily XTRM tracks short-term cumulative extremes, useful for identifying swing trading opportunities. The weekly XTRM provides a longer-term perspective on momentum exhaustion, helping investors spot major turning points.

By analyzing both timeframes together, you can identify when HBAR-USD is experiencing extreme conditions at multiple time scales, which often leads to the strongest reversal setups.

Historical XTRM Extreme Analysis

Above, we track historical instances when HBAR XTRM dropped below -125 (extreme oversold territory). These periods represent times when HBAR-USD spent extended periods in oversold conditions, which historically have presented some of the best buying opportunities. Analyzing how HBAR behaved after reaching these extreme XTRM levels can help inform future trading decisions.
